(LVDE) — In Accra, on the sidelines of the 2026 African Trade Summit, Afreximbank was honored by the Africa Trade Chamber for its structuring role in financing and organizing African trade. This continental recognition crowns years of institutional investment in support of economic integration.
The Ghanaian capital witnessed a major acknowledgment for the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). On January 29, 2026, during the closing ceremony of the African Trade Summit, the pan-African institution received the 2026 Africa Trade Award in the category “African Architect of Trade Finance of the Year.” This distinction, awarded by the Africa Trade Chamber, recognizes Afreximbank’s leadership in structuring financial mechanisms that support trade across the continent.
The award highlights Afreximbank’s central role in establishing a genuine African trade finance architecture. Through innovative instruments for payments, guarantees, trade facilitation, and support for industrial value chains, the bank has become a pillar of intra-African trade, particularly within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The award was presented by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, in the presence of several high-ranking officials, including the President of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova. The trophy was received on behalf of Afreximbank by Alain Thierry Mbongue Ebollo, Acting Regional Director for Anglophone West Africa.
According to the organizers of the Africa Trade Awards, this recognition underscores the tangible impact of Afreximbank’s actions on transforming African trade—whether through mobilizing African capital, developing continental payment platforms, or financing major industrial projects. The institution thus stands out as a key actor in regional economic integration and the continent’s financial sovereignty.
Created by the Africa Trade Chamber, the Africa Trade Awards annually recognize institutions, companies, and public decision-makers whose actions have profoundly influenced Africa’s commercial and industrial dynamics. Official statements from the Africa Trade Chamber, Afreximbank, and specialized media coverage confirm that the 2026 edition further consolidates Afreximbank’s position as a continental reference in trade finance.
Beyond the trophy itself, this recognition strengthens the bank’s strategic mandate : to sustainably support Africa’s economic transformation through trade, industrialization, and regional integration.
