In Cameroon’s Far North region, road infrastructure development is reaching a decisive milestone. During a field visit on May 30, 2026, the Minister of Public Works assessed the progress of the Carrefour Bogo–Guirvidig road project, entrusted to Chinese contractor CGCOC, along with urban road improvements in Bogo and Maroua.
On the main 32.86 km corridor, works are nearly fully completed. The road pavement has been entirely laid, alongside 5 km of urban roads in Bogo and 6.5 km in Maroua. All hydraulic structures included in the project have also been completed, a key achievement in a region frequently affected by seasonal flooding.
According to technical data presented during the visit, the overall physical progress of the project stands at around 80%, with time consumption estimated at 96%. Despite financial constraints linked to unpaid invoices since January 2025, CGCOC has maintained steady execution, ensuring continuity of the works.
Remaining tasks mainly concern finishing works, including drainage improvements in certain sections, final pavement layers, slope stabilization and protection, as well as horizontal and vertical road signage. These works are expected to enable full delivery of the infrastructure in the coming months.
The project is part of the Transport Sector Support Programme (Phase II), which aims to open up rural areas and strengthen links between economic centers in the Far North. Beyond the main road, savings generated under the contract have enabled additional works, including flood protection structures and the expansion of secondary roads in Bogo.
For authorities, this infrastructure represents a major driver of local transformation. It improves the movement of goods and people across the region and enhances access to basic social services. It is also expected to facilitate trade flows in an area characterized by strong agro-pastoral activity.
While commending CGCOC’s performance, the Ministry of Public Works highlighted the quality of execution and the company’s resilience despite financial constraints. Once fully completed, this road section is expected to strengthen territorial integration and support economic development in Cameroon’s Far North region.
