Against a backdrop of rising demand for infrastructure across Africa, Cameroon continues to attract international operators specializing in public works. It is within this context that PROPAV Infrastructure LTD conducted a mission to Yaoundé, marked by high-level exchanges with government officials on structuring projects in the road and urban development sectors.
At the Ministry of Public Works, discussions focused primarily on the development of the Bekoko–Limbe–Idenau corridor, a strategic route stretching approximately 107 kilometers in the South-West region. The project also includes the Mutengene–Buea section and a spur road leading to the Port of Tiko, considered a critical hub for regional logistics development. Technical services estimate the total cost of the project at over 113 billion FCFA. At this stage, no execution timeline has been set, although feasibility studies have already been completed and authorities suggest a possible move to the operational phase once financing is secured.
In this regard, the Cameroonian government is continuing efforts to mobilize technical and financial partners capable of supporting the implementation of such infrastructure. PROPAV Infrastructure LTD has expressed interest in the project, though no formal contractual commitment has yet been made. According to the Ministry, the company is expected to submit a technical and financial proposal in line with ongoing procedures.
The British delegation’s mission also extended to urban development. During a meeting with the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Célestine Ketcha Courtès, in the presence of the British High Commissioner, Paula Miguel Priego, discussions covered several major projects, including the “Yaoundé Cœur de Ville” program, the modernization of the urban section of the Yaoundé–Nsimalen highway, the capital’s ring road, and the rehabilitation of urban roads in several cities across the country.
This engagement takes place within a broader environment of intensified infrastructure investment in Central Africa. According to the African Development Bank, the continent’s annual infrastructure needs amount to tens of billions of dollars, a gap that is prompting governments to strengthen public-private partnerships in order to accelerate the delivery of major projects.
PROPAV Infrastructure LTD positions itself as a specialist in infrastructure and energy solutions, with operations in Latin America and several African countries, including Tanzania, Guinea, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, and Zanzibar. This multi-sector presence reflects a strategy of expansion into emerging markets where demand for roads, bridges, and urban development remains substantial.
In Cameroon, this mission comes as authorities step up initiatives to improve intercity connectivity and support regional economic development. If implemented, the projects under discussion are expected to help open up isolated areas, ease the flow of goods and people, and support urban growth in a context of strong demographic pressure.
