(LVDE) — Rehabilitation works on the Magada–Guidiguis road are entering a new operational phase. Between January 10 and 17, 2026, the SINOHYDRO / STECOL Consortium delivered the first batch of 64 tonnes of 35/50-grade bitumen to the site, marking the official start of major interventions on this strategic route.
The rehabilitation of the Magada–Guidiguis road, a key project for improving connectivity and fostering economic development in the region, is gaining momentum. The recently deployed project control mission observes a gradual structuring of activities, symbolized by the arrival of the first bitumen stock on-site. From January 10 to 17, the consortium transported 64 tonnes of 35/50-grade bitumen, essential for setting up the asphalt plant that will produce the road’s wearing course.
In parallel, the company provided a weekly activity schedule, reflecting clear organization and effective project management. Current operations include aggregate production, laboratory investigations and testing on existing road sections and areas to be widened, as well as clearing and bush removal along the initial stretches of the project corridor.
Drainage works are progressing simultaneously, with prefabrication of gutters, curbs, channels, and downspouts underway. Several culverts are also at various stages of completion, including excavation, reinforcement, concreting, and backfilling, according to targeted kilometer points. Regarding road widening, certain sections—particularly at PK 18+125 and PK 29+300 on the left side—are seeing heavy machinery deployment to improve traffic flow and ensure user safety.
To maintain continuity and safety, the consortium has provided personal protective equipment, gradually implemented temporary signage, and recruited local labor. These measures not only ensure smooth operations but also promote the involvement of neighboring communities in the project.
Project stakeholders confirm that this first operational milestone is a major step forward. It heralds the upcoming phase of asphalt laying, which will bring the full rehabilitation of the route to fruition. Completion of this strategic project will ease traffic flow, enhance travel safety, and boost the region’s economic attractiveness, while strengthening the connection between Magada and Guidiguis.
