Official Meeting Between Public Works Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, the Spanish Ambassador to Cameroon, and Representatives of CENTUNION S.A.
The project to construct four modular steel bridges in Cameroon has reached a new milestone. During a meeting with Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, Spain’s Ambassador to Cameroon, Juan-Pedro Pérez-Gómez Delaunay, accompanied by representatives of CENTUNION S.A., reviewed the status of an initiative expected to strengthen transport infrastructure across several regions of the country.
Led by Spanish engineering company CENTUNION S.A. and supported financially by Deutsche Bank Spain, the project involves the design, supply and construction of four prefabricated modular steel bridges. Discussions focused primarily on the technical, administrative and financial adjustments required before the effective launch of construction works.
The parties also examined the updated financial proposal, project management assistance services, geotechnical studies and technical control mechanisms necessary to ensure the successful implementation of the project. Related infrastructure works required to support the bridges were also discussed.
For the Cameroonian government, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to modernize the national road network. Modular bridges are increasingly viewed as an efficient solution for improving mobility in areas facing a shortage of crossing infrastructure. Their key advantages include rapid installation, technical flexibility and adaptability to challenging environments.
Beyond their technical benefits, the bridges are expected to help open up agricultural production basins and remote economic zones. In several regions, disruptions caused by seasonal rains continue to hinder trade flows and increase transportation costs. Improving crossing infrastructure is therefore considered essential for boosting local economic development and facilitating access to basic services.
For its part, CENTUNION S.A. reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Cameroon in the implementation of the project. The company, which specializes in metal infrastructure solutions, also intends to share its expertise in engineering, assembly and skills transfer with local stakeholders.
The project further highlights the growing economic cooperation between Cameroon and Spain in the infrastructure sector. According to the Ministry of Public Works, the priority now is to accelerate the procedures required to move the project into its implementation phase. Once completed, the four modular bridges are expected to improve the movement of people and goods while strengthening economic integration across the targeted territories.
