In the small town of Ayos, a major road junction located about 120 kilometers from Yaoundé, the opening of a new TRADEX service station reflects the steady rise of a company that has become a key player in Cameroon’s downstream petroleum sector. A subsidiary of the National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH), TRADEX continues to expand its footprint with a clear objective : bringing fuel distribution and related services closer to populations living outside major urban centers.
Commissioned on May 25, 2026, at the Makabo site, the “TRADEX Ayos” station becomes the 86th outlet in the company’s national network. Built on a 1,390-square-meter site, it now serves as a strategic refueling point for motorists travelling along National Road No. 10, a major corridor linking Yaoundé to several localities in eastern Cameroon.
Beyond conventional fuel distribution, the company is relying on a multi-service model that has become the hallmark of its latest developments. The Ayos station features a total storage capacity of 80 cubic meters for diesel, gasoline and kerosene. It also includes a domestic gas facility capable of storing up to 280 cylinders, a technical bay for oil-change and lubrication services, and a convenience store operating under the Trad’Shop brand.
The company has also integrated an automated teller machine (ATM) and a mosque open to Muslim travelers, reflecting its commitment to adapting infrastructure to local socio-cultural realities. This approach illustrates the gradual transformation of African service stations into community-oriented service hubs that combine retail, mobility and everyday convenience.
The investment comes at a time of sustained growth in fuel consumption across Cameroon. According to industry data, national demand for petroleum products continues to rise, driven by urbanization, the expansion of the vehicle fleet and increasing intercity trade. In this highly competitive market, TRADEX is steadily strengthening its position against other major fuel distributors operating in the country.
The company’s Managing Director, Emmanuel Patrick Mvondo, described the opening as a new milestone in the nationwide expansion strategy championed by Adolphe Moudiki, Chairman of the Board of SNH and one of the leading figures in Cameroon’s petroleum industry. With the addition of Ayos, TRADEX now operates in 31 of Cameroon’s 58 administrative divisions. The project is also expected to generate tangible local economic benefits. Construction activities involved several Cameroonian SMEs and created nearly 50 indirect jobs during the building phase. In addition, 15 young Cameroonians have been recruited to manage the station’s daily operations.
In a country where access to energy infrastructure remains uneven across territories, the expansion of the TRADEX network reflects the quiet transformation taking place in Cameroon’s downstream petroleum sector. Through service diversification, territorial coverage and responses to growing energy needs, service stations are increasingly becoming local economic hubs at the heart of community development.
