(LVDE) — On 12 December 2025, the Port Authority of Douala (PAD) was officially recognized as Cameroon’s leading large-scale enterprise by the Central African Banking Commission (COBAC), thereby consolidating its status as the leader in this category.
As of 12 December 2025, the Port Authority of Douala (PAD) saw its efforts crowned with official recognition from the Central African Banking Commission (COBAC), which ranked it first among “Large-Scale and Nationally Important Enterprises.” This landmark decision, referenced COBAC D-2025/328, underscores PAD’s excellence in a highly competitive environment, placing the company ahead of other major players such as Tradex Cameroon, TotalEnergies Marketing Cameroon, and MTN, among others.
This assessment is based on a rigorous analysis conducted by COBAC, taking into account objective criteria such as financial soundness, risk management, and corporate governance. Henri Choup, Director of Finance and Accounting at PAD, commented on the distinction, emphasizing that the company’s prudent debt management has been a key factor in its success. According to him, this recognition reflects renewed confidence from banking institutions and further strengthens relationships with financial partners.
PAD’s inclusion in this highly selective ranking since 2024 and its leadership position in 2025 highlight its outstanding performance. It represents a major achievement for PAD, the operator of the Douala-Bonabéri Port, which plays a vital role in the Cameroonian economy by facilitating trade and maritime transport.

PAD’s importance goes beyond internal management and extends to the broader national economic fabric. Companies listed among the “Large-Scale Enterprises” enjoy significant benefits, including a 25% reduction in risk exposure ratios for a one-year period. This relief, provided for under Article 2 of the COBAC decision, is a valuable lever enabling these companies to strengthen their market position.
By topping this list, PAD not only maintains its leadership status but also contributes to the growth of the local economy. Its exemplary performance inspires other companies to strive for excellence and to continuously improve their governance and management standards.
PAD’s recognition by COBAC comes at a time when economic challenges persist. However, this distinction demonstrates that rigorous and responsible management can lead to tangible success in the marketplace. By maintaining its top ranking, the Port Authority of Douala asserts itself not only as a key player in the maritime sector, but also as a model of success for Cameroonian enterprises.
In conclusion, PAD illustrates that a commitment to excellence and sound management can deliver exceptional results, inspiring others to follow the same path.
