Cutting of the Cake for Huawei’s 10th Anniversary in Cameroon
(LVDE) – At the first edition of Huawei Digital Day, held on August 20, 2025, in Yaoundé, Huawei Cameroon celebrated a decade of fruitful partnerships with the government and educational institutions, reaffirming its commitment to training and skills transfer.
On that day, Yaoundé buzzed with innovation as Huawei marked its 10th anniversary in the country. In the presence of distinguished guests, including State Minister Jacques Fame Ndongo, the event highlighted the achievements of a rich collaboration between Huawei, the Cameroonian government, and higher education institutions.
Since 2016, Huawei has launched several programs aimed at training young Cameroonians in information and communication technologies (ICT). Through initiatives such as Seeds for the Future, Huawei ICT Academy, and the Huawei ICT Competition, the company has trained more than 10,000 youths, including 170 who benefited from its flagship Seeds for the Future program. To date, over 400 of them hold Huawei professional certifications, and many alumni have gone on to promising careers in local companies or launched their own start-ups.
Aurelle Tchagna, a former SUP’PTIC student and now CEO of the start-up InchTechs, shared his experience: “This program allowed me to gain hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies. I am grateful to Huawei and the government for this opportunity.” His testimony reflects the positive impact of these programs on youth employability.
Huawei Digital Day was also an occasion to celebrate the success of students in the Huawei ICT Competition. Nine winners who excelled in the national contest were awarded by Huawei and Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL), underscoring both companies’ commitment to academic excellence. Cameroon’s team even won first place at the international finals in China, beating more than 179 teams from 48 countries.
The ceremony also marked the launch of the 10th edition of Seeds for the Future, which will send a new cohort of students to China to deepen their knowledge of Huawei technologies. Olylia Wang Lei, General Manager of Huawei Cameroon, expressed gratitude to Cameroonian authorities and encouraged the winners to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.
“We hope that upon their return, these students will apply the skills they have gained to contribute to the development of Cameroon’s digital economy,” said Minister Jacques Fame Ndongo. He also emphasized the importance of this partnership in driving the country’s digital transformation.
The event was further enriched by inspiring testimonies from former participants who have since become entrepreneurs, offering valuable motivation to the attending students. A discussion panel also addressed the challenges of digitalization in the university context, with advice on the key skills needed to succeed in the ICT sector.
This 10th anniversary celebration also provided participants the opportunity to explore exhibitions by Huawei ICT Academy partner institutions, alumni, and other stakeholders, fostering networking and employment opportunities.
