(LVDE) – The entry of the Indian automotive giant into the Cameroonian market, supported by a solid distribution network and locally available spare parts, took place on August 14, 2025, in Douala.
The Cameroonian automotive landscape has recently expanded with the arrival of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers and the world’s largest producer of tractors. On August 14, 2025, the brand’s launch ceremony was held in Douala, the country’s economic capital, marking the beginning of a new era for utility vehicles in Cameroon. With a global reputation for robust and reliable vehicles, Mahindra aims to establish itself in a fast-growing market.
For this first entry, the manufacturer chose to present its flagship model, the Scorpio Pik Up. This versatile vehicle, designed to withstand Cameroon’s challenging road conditions, comes in five variants, offering flexibility suited for both professionals and private users. Options include 4×4 or 4×2 transmissions, single or double cabins, as well as manual or automatic gearboxes. Powered by a 2.2-liter mHAWK turbo-diesel engine, the Scorpio Pik Up delivers 140 hp and 320 Nm of torque, making it ideal for the country’s demanding terrain.
According to Sachin Arolkar, Head of International Operations at Mahindra: “We are proud to introduce Mahindra’s authentic vehicles to the Cameroonian market. The Scorpio Pik Up and our upcoming SUV, the XUV 3XO, illustrate our commitment to providing reliable vehicles tailored to consumer expectations.” The brand is also determined to offer not only high-performance cars but also quality after-sales service, supported by a network of locally trained technicians.
To ensure optimal service, Mahindra has partnered with Ice Automobile, a subsidiary of the Arkays Group, which has built a solid reputation in the industry over several decades. Already well established in the local market with a range of products, Ice Automobile focuses on the distribution and maintenance of Mahindra vehicles. Its CEO, Mr. Kamal Dhanwani, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “The Pik Up is a utility vehicle that perfectly meets the needs for robustness and reliability of Cameroonian users. We look forward to introducing customers to this new brand experience.”
Mahindra’s reach extends far beyond the automotive industry. The group is a diversified conglomerate with operations in agriculture, technology, defense, and energy. This versatility enables it to adapt its products to the specific needs of local markets while maintaining high quality standards. In addition to the Scorpio Pik Up, the company plans to soon launch the compact SUV XUV 3XO, thus meeting the growing demand for sophisticated urban vehicles.
With more than 260,000 employees in over 100 countries, Mahindra is a major player on the global stage. Founded in 1945, the group has successfully diversified into various sectors, ranging from agricultural equipment to financial services. Its mission is rooted in a commitment to bringing positive change to the lives of communities and stakeholders.
