In a context of major international exposure, CAMTEL emerged as a key component of the technical system supporting the Holy Father’s visit. For four days, Cameroon was at the center of global attention, generating high demand on networks for media coverage, live broadcasting and digital exchanges across official sites.
To meet these requirements, the public operator deployed a reinforced telecom architecture focused on securing connections, expanding transmission capacity and ensuring redundancy of critical infrastructure. The objective was clear: guarantee full service continuity across all strategic locations involved in the event.
Ahead of the visit, Cameroonian authorities, under the coordination of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, had set a standard of absolute reliability for the organization. In this context, CAMTEL implemented a structured operational plan, including needs mapping, reinforcement of existing infrastructure and the deployment of backup systems to prevent any failure.
Under the supervision of its Director General, Judith Yah Sunday Achidi, technical teams were mobilized continuously. Field presence, real-time monitoring and constant coordination defined the operation, reflecting a strong commitment to performance and responsiveness.
Technically, the system relied on the densification of the fiber optic network, optimization of transmission loops and activation of automatic failover solutions. The Network Supervision Center operated 24/7, ensuring constant monitoring. The result: no outages and no technical incidents throughout the entire event.
Beyond infrastructure, this success also stems from the dedication of the human resources involved. Engineers, technicians and support teams worked in close coordination, contributing to overall system stability and reinforcing the operator’s operational reliability.
This achievement builds on a track record already demonstrated during major events, including AFCON 2022 and several international meetings held in Yaoundé. In a context where connectivity demand is growing by more than 10% annually in Africa, according to the International Telecommunication Union, the ability of operators to ensure service continuity has become a strategic issue for states.
By successfully delivering this flawless operation, CAMTEL confirms its role as a pillar of national digital sovereignty. This performance strengthens its position as a key player in Cameroon’s digital transformation and in ensuring the reliability of critical infrastructure in an increasingly connected environment.
