On February 13, 2025, in Cotonou, the Club of Bank Executives and Credit Institutions of Africa (Cdbeca) held its annual meetings, during which Nguéto Tiraina Yambaye was elected president. This election, resulting from unanimous support among members, marks an important milestone in his career and underscores the confidence placed in him to fulfill the organization’s ambitions.
Nguéto Tiraina Yambaye, who has led the African Guarantee and Economic Cooperation Fund (Fagace) since 2020, sees this new role as an opportunity to enhance synergies among financial institutions across the continent. His professional background demonstrates his commitment to improving economic conditions in Africa by fostering cooperation among various actors in the financial sector.
Under Yambaye’s leadership, Fagace has positioned itself as a key player in development financing, gathering 14 member states and collaborating with over 100 financial partners. Thanks to his efforts, the institution has successfully mobilized over 4.5 trillion CFA francs in loans to support the economies of its members. These figures not only illustrate the effectiveness of his leadership but also his commitment to improving economic conditions in the region.
In the statement announcing his presidency at Cdbeca, Yambaye reiterated his commitment to promoting innovative guarantee mechanisms. He emphasized the importance of forming strategic partnerships to mitigate investment risks, thereby fostering inclusive and sustainable growth for Africa. This vision of economic development is based on an integrated approach, highlighting the importance of collaboration among different actors in the financial sector.
An economist by training, Nguéto Tiraina Yambaye has 25 years of solid experience at both national and international levels. Before joining Fagace, he served as an executive at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a role that allowed him to strengthen his expertise in economic and financial governance. Nationally, he has also held ministerial positions, including Minister of Economy, Planning, and Development in Chad.
His election to the head of Cdbeca is thus a natural continuation of his career and commitments. By taking the reins of this organization, Yambaye positions himself as a key player in accelerating financial initiatives aimed at transforming the African economic landscape. Expectations are high, and his experience and expertise will undoubtedly be significant assets in addressing the challenges ahead.
This new presidency could signal a turning point in the collaborative dynamics among African financial institutions, laying the groundwork for sustainable and inclusive development on the continent. The members of Cdbeca, under Yambaye’s leadership, hope to strengthen their actions to effectively contribute to Africa’s economic growth.
