(LVDE) — Orange has strengthened its digital financial services footprint in Cameroon with the official launch of its Orange Money virtual prepaid card, powered by the global Mastercard network. Rolled out in partnership with Access Bank Cameroon, the initiative marks a new step in expanding electronic payments and financial inclusion in the country.
On January 28, 2026, Orange Money Cameroon officially introduced its fully digital, prepaid virtual card, designed to meet the growing demand for secure and seamless online transactions. Backed by Mastercard’s global payment infrastructure, the new solution enables Orange Money customers to make online payments, manage digital subscriptions, book services and shop on both local and international platforms with ease.
Available directly through the Max it application, the OM Mastercard offers flexibility and wide usability, allowing users to carry out transactions within Cameroon and abroad without the need for a physical card. The launch forms part of a broader regional strategy led by Orange Middle East and Africa in collaboration with Mastercard and Orange Bank, aimed at widening access to modern financial services across several Sub-Saharan African markets, including Cameroon, Senegal, Mali, Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau.
Beyond its technological dimension, the virtual card reflects Orange’s ambition to accelerate financial inclusion and support the digital economy. According to William Nlembe, Chief Executive Officer of Orange Money Cameroon, the objective is to provide populations with a universal payment tool aligned with the requirements of e-commerce and evolving consumer habits, while strengthening trust in electronic transactions.
For Mastercard, Cameroon represents a strategic market, driven by a young, digitally savvy population increasingly open to innovative payment solutions. The OM Mastercard is expected to connect Cameroonian users more effectively to global trade, enabling transactions across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas with the same level of convenience.
Security remains a core pillar of the offering. Transactions are protected through dedicated authentication codes, advanced fraud detection systems and artificial intelligence-driven monitoring tools, all in line with Mastercard’s international security standards. With this launch, Orange Money further positions itself as a key player in Cameroon’s digital and financial transformation. Raphael Mforlem
