In a context of rapid transformation of Cameroon’s digital sector, MTN Cameroon and the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART) engaged in a new strategic dialogue in Douala. This high-level visit is part of an ongoing consultation process aimed at improving service quality, enhancing transparency, and strengthening balance within the telecommunications market.
The meeting allowed the operator to present a detailed overview of its activities, including recent performance, operational constraints, and future strategic directions. Particular attention was given to the 2025 investment report and the 2026 investment plan, highlighting increased efforts to modernize network infrastructure, expand nationwide coverage, and improve service quality.
According to data shared during the discussions, the sector continues to face strong pressure driven by rapidly growing demand for connectivity, particularly in urban and peri-urban areas. MTN Cameroon emphasized the need to accelerate investments in order to meet rising consumer expectations and support the country’s digital transformation.
MTN Cameroon CEO Wanda Matandela highlighted the importance of ongoing dialogue with the regulator, noting that such cooperation helps align sector priorities and fosters an environment conducive to innovation. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continued investment in infrastructure, while enhancing customer experience and digital services.
For his part, the Director General of ART, Professor Philemon Zoo Zame, stressed the need for strict and balanced market regulation to ensure fair competition among operators, protect consumers, and maintain sector stability. This approach is aligned with the regulator’s mandate to support the sustainable development of telecommunications in Cameroon.
The discussions also addressed key issues related to digital inclusion and the reduction of the digital divide. With a rapidly expanding market and increasing mobile service adoption, both institutions emphasized the importance of strengthening infrastructure quality and extending network coverage to underserved areas.
At the end of the visit, MTN Cameroon and ART reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a permanent framework for dialogue. Both parties aim to continue their collaboration in support of Cameroon’s digital transformation and broader socio-economic development through a more efficient and inclusive telecommunications sector.
