(LVDE) — On the occasion of the 2025 Cameroonian Ballon d’Or, Fecafoot and Eden Group have signed an unprecedented partnership aimed at rewarding sporting performance through access to land ownership. Presented as a social security support mechanism for athletes, this four-year initiative targets the best male and female players in the national championship.
Cameroonian football is entering a new era of sporting merit recognition. In Yaoundé on 27 February 2026, the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) and Eden Group, a company specialized in construction and land management, officially signed a strategic agreement to reward annual Ballon d’Or winners with land plots. The initiative seeks to combine sporting success with asset security in a country where access to land ownership remains a major economic and social issue.
The agreement, signed by Fecafoot president Samuel Eto’o and Eden Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Eric Deassou Sezine, runs for four years. Under the terms of the deal, the private company provides land spaces for the best players in the local championship to help promote a new culture of sporting rewards. This strategy also responds to the reality of professional sport, where careers are often short and require careful financial management by athletes.
Leaders of both institutions emphasized the symbolic and economic significance of the project. For Eden Group, the goal is to strengthen the link between sporting performance, personal discipline and social stability. Football, one of the most popular sports in Cameroon, remains a major pathway for social mobility for many young talents emerging from local leagues. According to national sporting statistics, the Cameroonian championship continues to produce players who later pursue international careers, particularly in Europe and North Africa.
The Fecafoot president welcomed the initiative, stressing that access to property helps secure the future of young athletes. This innovation comes as the federation seeks to modernize local football governance and improve the living conditions of championship players. The signing ceremony took place just hours before the 3rd edition of the Cameroonian Ballon d’Or ceremony at the Yaoundé Conference Center, an event that annually rewards the best performers of the sporting season.
Beyond symbolism, this partnership also reflects a global trend of providing social benefits to professional athletes. In several countries, sports federations are developing patrimonial support mechanisms to ensure financial stability and career transition opportunities for athletes after retirement. Eden Group states that it aims to contribute to sustainable development of Cameroonian sport through urban development, land subdivision and land security projects.
