(LVDE) — On National Road No. 7, linking Edéa to Kribi, the Road Maintenance Company (SOMAF) is advancing targeted repair works on the most damaged segments. Supported by the National Brigade of Public Works under the Ministry of Public Works (MINTP), the company focuses its interventions on surface leveling and pothole repairs to enhance safety and comfort for road users.
Since the beginning of 2026, SOMAF teams have been implementing an intensive maintenance program on this strategic southern Cameroonian route. Following the work plan set by the National Brigade of Public Works, operations are carried out in targeted sections, prioritizing areas most affected by heavy vehicle traffic.
As of January 16, the work covers specific segments between kilometer points (PK) 12+200 and 14+650. The interventions include surface leveling, aimed at creating a uniform roadway, as well as pothole treatment, to secure traffic and prevent further road degradation. SOMAF had previously completed the restoration of the carriageway between PK 12+200 and PK 12+700 before moving on to the next section at PK 13+200.
On January 15, work focused on three key stretches: PK 13+350 to PK 13+450, PK 14+100 to PK 14+200, and PK 14+550 to PK 14+650. Teams removed deformations and repaired potholes while continuing surface leveling to ensure a smooth and safe road surface. These measures help reduce accident risks and improve traffic flow, particularly for heavy trucks connecting the hinterland to the port and tourist areas of the Littoral and South regions.
In parallel, SOMAF conducts rigorous monitoring of the pavement condition and adjusts its program according to the most critical sections. The work comes at a time when the Edéa–Kribi road, vital for the local economy, has suffered from inadequate maintenance for several years. MINTP emphasizes that these interventions not only extend the lifespan of the pavement but also enhance road safety and user satisfaction.
In the coming days, SOMAF plans to expand its interventions to adjacent kilometer points, while maintaining particular focus on surface leveling and repairing the most fragile areas. The continuity of these works, combined with strict technical oversight, represents a decisive step toward sustainably improving the quality of the Edéa–Kribi national road, crucial for commerce, transport, and tourism in the region.
