Urban crossing works in the city of Bamenda
(LVDE) — Construction works on the urban crossing of the city of Bamenda are progressing at a steady pace, marking a strategic link between the Babadjou–Bamenda highway and the cross-border Bamenda–Enugu corridor. During the week of December 16 to 21, 2025, significant progress was recorded on the project site.
In Bamenda, momentum is building around the construction of the urban boulevard. This large-scale project, which is vital for connecting the Babadjou–Bamenda road to the Bamenda–Enugu cross-border section, is advancing rapidly despite the challenges encountered. Throughout the week of December 16 to 21, 2025, teams from Bun’s company demonstrated strong commitment, achieving notable milestones on the ground.
Work carried out covered several key components, including the clearing of the right-of-way over 3.1 km of a total 6.5 km section. General earthworks also continued, reaching 2.9 km of the planned length. In addition, progress was made in the prefabrication of U-shaped drainage channels, with 1,338 meters completed out of a target of 8,980 meters. Prefabrication of box culvert elements measuring 1.5 x 1.5 meters reached 77 meters out of the planned 350 meters. Network relocation works contributed to an overall physical progress rate estimated at 7.23% as of December 19, 2025.
On site, activity was intense, with efficient deployment of the contractor and a robust supervision system that ensured a high level of safety for workers. Teams focused on stripping the old pavement, embankment works between kilometer points 5.350 and 5.500, and the casting of hydraulic structure No. 136 at kilometer point 6+228, which includes a 3 x 3 meter box culvert. Reinforcement works on the culvert structure were also underway, reflecting a methodical approach to the construction process.
However, the project faces significant challenges, particularly the need to balance site-specific constraints with the objectives set by the project owner, while meeting delivery deadlines. These issues highlight both the complexity of the tasks involved and the company’s determination to ensure the successful completion of this vital infrastructure.
The completion of the urban boulevard is expected to significantly ease traffic flow within the city and stimulate local economic development by facilitating transit between Cameroon and neighboring countries. Local residents are eagerly anticipating the benefits of a modernized road infrastructure that they hope will bring tangible improvements to daily life.
Overall, Bun’s company continues to mobilize substantial resources to deliver this ambitious project. The progress achieved during the week under review underscores a strong commitment to completing this key infrastructure for the region. The coming months will be crucial in ensuring that deadlines and quality standards are met, in the interest of all residents of Bamenda.
