(LVDE) – Located in the city of Limbe, Gardens Government Primary School, one of the most renowned schools in the capital of the South-West Region, has seen its infrastructure undergo a major facelift initiated by the Orange Foundation. This marked the successful completion of its “School 4 All” program, whose caravan was launched at the beginning of September.
In the school courtyard, before a crowd made up of administrative and traditional authorities, parents, and representatives of the Orange Foundation, the pupils—after singing the national anthem—performed a song dedicated to their benefactors as a gesture of welcome. The ceremony took place under the paternal gaze of Mr. Viang Mekala, Senior Divisional Officer of the Fako Division, who presided over the handover of the fully rehabilitated infrastructure by the Orange Foundation. He was accompanied by Mr. Innocent Moni, Divisional Officer of Limbe I, and Mrs. Epossi, Mayor of the Limbe I Municipality, which hosted the event. The joy visible on faces was all the more justified as the infrastructure being handed over, provided by the Orange Foundation, is intended to ensure better learning conditions for the school’s pupils.
Speaking on behalf of the Orange Foundation Cameroon to present the new facilities to the educational community and local authorities, Mrs. Elizabeth Mabom, Secretary General of the institution, explained that the choice of Limbe was driven by the desire to contribute to equitable development by providing communities with access to amenities that improve access to education. This approach is in line with the two main pillars underpinning the missions, focus areas, and fields of intervention guiding the Orange Foundation’s actions, namely health and education. She also took the opportunity to raise awareness among pupils and teachers about the importance of education and teaching quality, while reaffirming her commitment to strengthening the partnership between the Orange Foundation Cameroon and local authorities for the development of education.
At Gardens Government Primary School in Limbe, the works included:
• The rehabilitation and furnishing of six classrooms with new desks and benches;
• The construction and fitting of latrines for pupils and teachers;
• The construction of a borehole within the school premises;
• The renovation of the school headmistress’s office;
• The renovation and equipping of the computer room with furniture and computers (15 laptops and tablets);
• The development of a space for parents’ meetings and other gatherings;
• The installation of lighting and ventilation systems;
• The distribution of 300 school kits to pupils.
Presiding over the handover ceremony, Mr. Viang Mekala expressed his satisfaction, noting that “the rehabilitation of this school now showcases renovated buildings that serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for both teachers and learners.” He also commended “the actions of the Orange Foundation Cameroon, which has made substantial investments (approximately 87 million CFA francs) to support public authorities in this region as part of this project.” He called on the professional conscience of teachers and pupils alike, while urging greater involvement from parents’ associations to remind everyone of their responsibility, stressing that “this is a valuable asset that should serve present and future generations.”
