(LVDE) – This heartfelt initiative, carried out as part of the celebration of Ecobank’s 40th anniversary in Africa and aimed at promoting inclusive education and the integration of new technologies into learning, was officially inaugurated on November 26, 2025, in Douala.
Ecobank Cameroon, one of the subsidiaries of the pan-African banking giant Ecobank, marked a significant milestone in its history on November 26, 2025. To commemorate its 40th anniversary, the bank inaugurated a fully equipped computer laboratory at the Bali Inclusive Public School, located in Douala in the Littoral region. This initiative is part of a broader effort dedicated to education, digital integration, and the inclusion of young people, particularly those living with disabilities.
The celebration took place as part of the 13th Ecobank Day, centered on the theme of inclusive education. In parallel, the bank launched an ambitious campaign titled “Transforming Africa Through Education,” aimed at establishing 40 computer labs across various African countries, training 40,000 young people in digital and AI skills, and developing training modules specifically tailored for children with disabilities. Donations of computers to specialized schools and various local initiatives were also implemented.
Gwendoline Abunaw, Managing Director of Ecobank Cameroon and Cemac Cluster Head, emphasized during the ceremony : “This year is pivotal for Ecobank, as we are celebrating not only the 13th edition of Ecobank Day, but also 40 years of impact on the continent. This demonstrates our commitment to transforming Africa, with a particular focus on integrating technology and AI to ensure equitable access to education for all children, including those with disabilities.”

The newly inaugurated lab, equipped with 25 workstations, is designed to encourage all students—particularly those with special needs—to take advantage of the opportunities that technology offers. The facility reflects Ecobank’s determination to break down barriers that hinder access to quality education.
Over the past three years, Ecobank Cameroon has undertaken concrete actions to improve education across the country. These efforts include providing computer equipment, renovating classrooms, and organizing digital reading camps, all intended to raise educators’ awareness of the importance of artificial intelligence in young people’s learning.
Ecobank’s initiatives have reached more than 3,000 students, as well as several schools, teachers, and communities nationwide, highlighting the importance of inclusion in education. “Too often, children with disabilities do not receive the attention or resources they need because the education system is not adapted to their needs. We are here to change that,” added Ms. Abunaw.
New technologies, including assistive tools and artificial intelligence, offer concrete solutions for fostering an inclusive learning environment. In Cameroon, Ecobank is embracing its role as a key player in this transformation. Through the installation of the computer lab at the Bali school, the bank also hopes to inspire a new generation of students to discover themselves and realize their potential.
Launched in 2013, Ecobank Day has become a cornerstone of the institution’s corporate social responsibility. The initiative brings together employees, the foundation, and partners around essential causes such as health, education, and youth empowerment, with the aim of building a better future for all. Through these efforts, Ecobank reaffirms its mission : placing inclusive education at the heart of Africa’s development.
