(LVDE) – While awaiting the complete clearance of the right-of-way along the main route, Arab Contractors Cameroon LTD is intensifying the additional works prescribed by the Minister of Public Works. These interventions are crucial for the rehabilitation of the Petit Marché Nyom 2 – Édimi section and the adjoining spur.
In the context of ongoing urban development, Arab Contractors Cameroon LTD is diligently pursuing the additional works on the northern bypass of Yaoundé. As the clearance of the main route’s right-of-way remains incomplete, the company is working to meet the directives of the Minister of Public Works. The efforts are focused on rehabilitating the Petit Marché Nyom 2 – Édimi section and its connecting road.
Launched on August 2, 2024, the works include a range of activities such as site clearing, road surface rehabilitation, and the installation of culverts and drainage systems to improve rainwater management. These measures prepare the ground for the full resumption of the main construction works, underscoring the importance of adequate road infrastructure for the capital’s development.
To date, the project’s progress stands at nearly 14%. This advancement reflects intensified efforts, including site cleaning, site installation, detailed engineering studies, and the construction of hydraulic structures. Despite a time consumption rate of 74.5%, the company’s management has implemented measures to maintain work momentum, even though some delays have occurred. These delays are largely due to the incomplete right-of-way clearance and a temporary halt in works between January and March 2025, following instructions from the Project Owner aimed at minimizing the social impact of demolitions on nearby residents.
On the administrative front, the Commission for the Inspection and Evaluation of Affected Properties is actively conducting its operations. The submission of an evaluation report covering the first 16 kilometers by the Prefect of Lékié is a key step that will facilitate the release of the remaining right-of-way required for the continuation of works.
The stakes of this project are significant—not only for improving traffic flow in the capital but also for enhancing the living conditions of local communities. The successful completion of this bypass road will have a direct impact on the region’s economic and social development by easing transport and reducing travel times.
By prioritizing these additional works, Arab Contractors reaffirms its commitment to Yaoundé’s infrastructure development. The coming months will be decisive for the continuation of this ambitious project, which, once completed, is expected to make a substantial contribution to the modernization of the city’s road network.
