Samira Ramatou, Representative of OIC-Comstech at the 8th WPC Energy Youth Forum
(LVDE) – Her invitation to this forum offered her an opportunity to share the vision and mission of the Scientific and Technological Organization of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), particularly in the fields of training, applied research, and science diplomacy.
Kuwait, a Gulf Arab country, hosted the 8th WPC Energy Youth Forum from October 22 to 23, 2025. Held under the high patronage of the Ministry of Oil of Kuwait and the World Petroleum Council (WPC Energy), the event brought together young professionals, researchers, policymakers, and international energy experts to discuss the challenges of energy transition, innovation, and leadership in the oil and gas sector.
Organized under the theme “Empowering the Future : Connecting Young Professionals, Ideas & Knowledge,” the forum welcomed over 1,000 participants from major oil and gas companies, research institutions, and international organizations. Its objective was to foster intergenerational dialogue and highlight the role of youth in the global energy transition through panels, roundtable discussions, start-up presentations, and innovative exhibitions in the energy sector.
The Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (Comstech) — a specialized body of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) dedicated to promoting science, technology, and innovation (STI) across the 57 member states — was represented at the event by its ambassador, Samira Ramatou.
“As a representative of Comstech, this participation carries special significance. It paves the way for South-South and North-South partnerships among OIC member countries, particularly in training, applied research, and science diplomacy. The experience gained through this forum strengthens the belief that youth must fully take their place in major global discussions on energy, innovation, and sustainability,” she stated.
Looking ahead, Samira Ramatou announced upcoming negotiations aimed at establishing partnerships between Comstech and key sectoral institutions such as Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and WPC Energy for training, research, and innovation in the energy field.
“The 8th WPC Energy Youth Forum was much more than an event—it was a space for inspiration, learning, and shared vision for an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable energy future. The sessions enabled rich exchanges between young professionals and business leaders, strengthening the bridges between innovation, inclusion, and sustainability,” added the Comstech ambassador.
