Sample of a Bridge Under Construction
(LVDE) – In a recently released statement, Cameroon’s Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, announced a national call for tenders for the construction of a permanent bridge over the Mayo Lawa in Bibemi. Valued at over CFAF 600 million, this project is crucial to the development of the North Region.
In a context where road infrastructure is vital to local development, Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi has launched an open national emergency tender to select a company for the construction of a permanent bridge over the Mayo Lawa, located in the Bibemi municipality, Bénoué Division. The project aims to improve accessibility and facilitate transportation in this strategic area.
The bridge, which will span 75 meters, is financed to the tune of CFAF 632,895,525 (tax included) through the Public Investment Budget (PIB) of the Ministry of Public Works for the 2025 fiscal year and beyond. This funding reflects the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure as a key driver of economic and social development.
The planned works include several crucial stages. Site installation will be followed by earthworks operations, including clearing, deforestation, and tree felling. Bidders must also identify borrow pits and quarry sites necessary for preparing road construction materials. This preparatory phase is essential to ensure the durability and safety of the structure.
In addition, drainage works will include the rehabilitation of ditches and outlets, the installation of culverts, and the construction of culvert heads. Masonry works, including the rebuilding of stone-lined and earthen drainage channels, will also form part of the project. Finally, signage and safety equipment will be installed to ensure road user safety.
Interested companies must submit their bids exclusively online via the COLEPS platform, a digital system designed to simplify and secure the submission process while ensuring transparency throughout the operation.
This bridge project over the Mayo Lawa is more than just an infrastructure development—it represents a catalyst for regional growth. By improving the flow of goods and people, it will enhance living conditions and stimulate local economic activity. In a region often challenged by poor accessibility, the construction of this bridge could be a game changer.
It is worth noting that this call for tenders by the Ministry of Public Works underscores the importance of infrastructure in Cameroon’s broader development strategy. The project’s completion is eagerly anticipated by local communities, who expect tangible improvements in their daily lives. The next steps will depend on the responsiveness of bidding companies and their ability to meet the project’s technical and timeline requirements.
