(LVDE) – Camwater has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company Cgcoc to revitalize drinking water supply systems in ten Cameroonian cities. This ambitious project aims to guarantee sustainable access to water for all Cameroonians and aligns with the government’s vision.
On September 23, 2025, at the Mont-Fébé Hotel in Yaoundé, Camwater took a decisive step in its commitment to improving access to potable water by signing a memorandum of understanding with Cgcoc Cameroon Ltd. The agreement marks the launch of a major project to rehabilitate and strengthen drinking water supply systems in ten cities across the country—an initiative crucial for public health and sustainable development.
The signing ceremony brought together Dr. Blaise Moussa, General Manager of Camwater, and Lu Chunyu, General Manager of Cgcoc, alongside members of Camwater’s Board of Directors, mayors of the beneficiary cities, and representatives from both companies. This partnership is fully in line with the vision of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, who has consistently worked to ensure reliable and sustainable access to drinking water for all Cameroonians.
The cities targeted by this project include Tignère, Abong-Mbang, Guidiguis, Kribi, Bandjock, Monatélé, Ndokayo, Ngong, Ntui, and Pitoa. These localities, which often suffer from irregular water supply, will benefit from modern and sustainable solutions to meet their water needs.
Dr. Blaise Moussa expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, noting that the project aims not only to modernize supply systems but also to contribute to achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 6 (SDG 6), which seeks to ensure universal access to safe drinking water. By 2045, the project is expected to provide reliable water access to approximately 1.2 million people.
The project will unfold in two distinct phases. The first will focus on modernizing existing systems in five cities, while the second will involve setting up entirely new systems in the other five. Camwater will act as the project owner, with Cgcoc as the technical partner and Eximbank China as the financial partner.
The provisional timeline for the project is ambitious, spanning 78 months. This includes a six-month preparatory phase, followed by 36 months for Phase 1 works, and another 36 months for Phase 2. The initiative represents a major step forward in improving living conditions in the targeted areas and aims to establish a safer, more accessible water supply service in Cameroon.
In sum, this initiative is a crucial step toward enhancing water supply in the country and could transform the daily lives of millions of Cameroonians. The commitment of Camwater and Cgcoc to this project demonstrates a shared determination to tackle the challenges of water access while supporting sustainable development goals. Populations can look forward to a significant improvement in their quality of life thanks to this large-scale project, which is anchored in a long-term vision for the future of water in Cameroon.
